Zest is a news reader built to keep your data yours. You don't need an account, and we don't build a profile of you on our servers. This policy explains the little data that is involved and how it's used.
Zest has no sign-up and no login. We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts, and we never sell personal data.
Zest learns the topics and publishers you read to personalise your feed. This interest profile is created and stored on your device, and is synced privately through your own iCloud account so it follows you across your devices. We do not receive it.
To assemble your feed, the app sends your chosen interest topics, your language, and your country code to our servers so we can return relevant articles. This request contains no name, account, or identifier and is not used to identify you.
The free version of Zest shows ads through Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, AdMob may process a device advertising identifier and ad-interaction data. On first launch you are asked for your consent, and on iOS you control ad tracking through App Tracking Transparency. You can decline personalised ads, and subscribing to Zest Premium removes ads entirely.
If you grant permission, your approximate location is used to show your local weather. It is sent to our weather providers (Open-Meteo and MET Norway) only to fetch the forecast for your area. It is not stored on our servers or linked to you.
Zest Premium (which removes ads and unlocks offline reading) is purchased and managed through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment; we do not receive your payment details.
Zest is a general-audience news app rated 13+. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
All network requests use encrypted HTTPS connections. We keep the minimum data needed to operate the service and retain none of the personal data described above.
